This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Kids are to magazines what bees are to honey - irresistibly drawn!
I am the school librarian at a PreK - 8 public school in Baltimore City.
I'm thrilled by the fact that I now have students who are regularly checking out books. At the same time, I have a large number of students who ask for magazines much more frequently than they do books. It's time that I have something to offer these eager readers!
My Project
I've selected three different Math and Science magazines that students will be able to check out from the library. They will be able to get fascinating, age-appropriate information from the colorful, glossy spreads that they love. These 3 magazine subscriptions will span from 3rd - 8th grade, so all of my students will be able to find something on their reading level. And when students ask for a magazine instead of a book, I'll be able to deliver. Sounds like a win-win to me!
Please help me get my students hooked on reading.
As an educator, and as a librarian, there is nothing more important to me than getting my students to fall in love with the written word. Together, we can make that happen!
