My students need a MacBook Air; they are severely autistic with significant learning disabilities and demonstrate difficulties with the traditional learning process.
My students are severely autistic and are part of a restricted 12:1:1 setting due to their severe disabilities. Ranging from nonverbal to significant cognitive delays my learners have significant social/emotional disabilities as well, therefore they are delayed academically. All of my students come from a high-poverty, low income environment. Some of their families reside in shelters, others live with foster families. My students' home lives are extremely difficult; they display very little trust toward their peers and adults. The abuse and neglect that these children have faced in their lifetime is something no child, or human being, should be exposed to. Our school is a warm environment that welcomes all students, regardless of disability.
My Project
Having a MacBook Air will benefit my students as it can be hooked up to our classroom Smart-board and utilized to help teach engaging lessons. Students on the autism spectrum tend to learn better through the utilization of technology as it enhances the learning comprehension process. Provision of technology within the classroom will increase student motivation to stay engaged in learning while aiding their opportunity to succeed. Donations toward this project will improve my classroom because this project will change the way my students feel about participating and completing assignments. A lot of times, my students are frustrated and insecure about their ability to complete tasks. Having a new, working computer in my classroom will change my students' lives for the better because it will enhance their learning through a positive and engaging learning experience.
