Many of the students are at risk. Their economic disadvantage makes them at risk for not mastering the academic skills necessary to become successful adults. Reaching and teaching at risk students means building relationships and fostering a desired and exciting opportunity for each student to succeed.
Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with 100% of our students receiving free lunch.
Many of my students receive backpack food on the weekend. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
In our Digital Design activity, my fifth grade students develop projects based on their own interests such as 3D animation, sculpting, modeling, architecture, game design, music composition, website design, stop-motion animation, film production, computer coding, personalized maps and travel tours. A Macbook will allow them to work with the most professional equipment possible. Being creative is the key to learning! With Macbook computer and a photo printer, software will run faster, programs won't crash, student work will be reliably saved and new applications will quickly be made available. My students will gain valuable college and career skills when they are able to be creative and initiative on a Macbook.
