Welcome to our English language arts classroom in Michigan. Our high school is tucked in the pines of the beautiful and remote Upper Peninsula. My students are quirky, fun, and high energy. I teach tenth through twelfth graders whose interests range from playing sports to participating in drama camp to showing farm animals at the county fair.
My students inspire me every day with their strength of spirit.
I love how welcoming they are to new students and how being around them feels like being with family. If you check out our classroom, I'm confident my students will inspire you, too!
My Project
The key word this year is "flexibility" as students transition between learning at school and learning at home. As I write this project, I am teaching from home; all students at the high school are learning remotely for the time being due to governor's orders. I hope to be back in the classroom with students soon; however, everything is up in the air.
Teachers are required to hold daily Google Meets with our students.
I have a teacher laptop, provided by the district, but I keep that at school rather than transporting it back and forth. The microphone doesn't work on it, so it doesn't suit my needs for meeting online with students.
At home, I use a MacBook, which is perfect for creating lessons, uploading assignments to Classroom, grading, emailing students and teachers, and, of course, conducting video Meets. I rely on this laptop throughout the day as an essential tool for providing a topnotch education for my high school students.
However, my MacBook is on the fritz! The screen keeps going black, and sometimes it takes many tries before it works again. I wonder how long I will be able to use it this way. I need a laptop that is dependable so that I can be there for my students, teaching them reading and writing skills.
Please help me provide my students with all of the materials they need, on time, so their learning from home can take place without delay. Our daily Meets are the most important time of the day for some students as they rely on that teacher and peer interaction to keep them motivated, inspired, and understanding the lessons. Thank you for supporting my students and valuing their education.
