Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students need basic supplies to succeed in AP environmental science. Our campus is starting a brand new program and we have no lab equipment to conduct the labs the college board requires.
AP students who have never taken an AP course before, average students who are trying to challenge themselves: they are in a large school where it's hard to be unique and smart and rise above adversities.
Many of my students have never been outside the city they live in. It will be a challenge for them to step outside the box when it comes to global thinking.
My Project
My students will have hands-on experiences for real world applications: understanding how politics plays a role in our planet's future, how the basic necessities of life are different around the world, such as clean drinking water. They will learn what it means to be cognizant of their environment and what we need to do to keep our planet healthy.
We are requesting lab supplies that include water and soil test kits, thermometers, hot plates and live plants and animals for an aquarium. We are also requesting technology to use in the classroom that includes a color printer, a 10" tablet, digital cameras/video camera, and a digital weather station.
Teaching students in an inner city school and broadening their horizons to look outside of their neighborhood and seeing how they impact the world on a whole other level is my goal.
Yes, they are one person, but one person can change the world.
