Lunchtime Yoga

My students need a safe and relaxing place to find peace and quiet in their lives. We will be offering a yoga class during lunch at least one day per week and these mats would help!

My Students

I teach a group of spirited and creative kids, most with few resources for classes and lessons outside of school. My primarily low income students have a need to learn strategies for taking care of their bodies and minds in settings that are accessible and simple, all of which can be accomplished and experience through yoga. When surveyed, the majority of my students, both boys and girls, expressed an interest in learning how to practice yoga. Sure, we can use towels, but it is my heart to provide authentic experiences for my students that they are not likely to get elsewhere. I hope that you can partner up with me to provide that!

My Project

By offering opportunities to practice yoga during lunch, I am hoping to help my kids learn a new way to maintain physical health and to create space for a peaceful mental state regardless of their circumstances. It is my hope to collect enough yoga mats to have a classroom full of students on certain days of the week, devoting just a little time during lunch to centering their minds and loving their bodies, which will go a long way to helping them in both life and in school. It is also my hope for my kids to build new and positive relationships with some of their peers who might not have gotten to know on the playground!
