My students are young adults ages 18-21 with autism. This group of young adults have amazing personalities and skills. They enjoy cooking, helping the community and learning new and exciting jobs.
My students have a variety of intellectual, physical, and sensory impairments.
My students are focusing their time in school on preparing for life after high school; that looks different for every student. We work with each student individually to help them communicate what their personal goals and visions for their futures are.
I have learned and seen by challenging my students and providing purposeful opportunities for them, they thrive! My students volunteer at soup kitchens, work in the local library and do many in school jobs. I
want to provide them with a new and exciting job opportunity that will allow them to thrive!
My Project
With these cooking appliances, my students will open the very first lunch cafe at their school. My students thrive when they are participating in activities with purpose. They will be responsible for preparing and cooking the lunch menu. They will then set the tables, take orders and serve lunch to staff members. This will be part of their vocational training.
Through using new and good appliances, my students will learn the skills necessary to work in a restaurant environment.
This cafe will provide my students with a purposeful and meaningful opportunity that will highlight their skills and abilities. Learning these skills will open up new opportunities for them.
