My students are creative problem solvers with lots of energy! We have a diverse population of gifted students, different ethnic backgrounds, and students who need reading and math interventions to grow into successful learners.
To help every child reach his or her greatest potential, I set high expectations and love to give students choices in their learning.
. My students are readers--though varying reading abilities, they love to read! Our school is a suburban 3-5 school with approximately 1,100 students.
My Project
My primary goal as a reading teacher is to help students not only learn to read, but LOVE to read! In order to accomplish this goal, I need to get as many high-interest books as possible into my students' hands. Most fourth graders love reading fictional stories with strong plots, characters they can relate to, and they LOVE cliffhangers! Books such as The One and Only Ivan, Hatchet, and Al Capone Does My Shirts appeal to both boys and girls and are across a variety of genres.
Your generous donation will help us continue to have Lunch Bunch Book Clubs with books students are interested in.
Students eat lunch in the classroom twice a week and talk about the book they're reading. These short-term book clubs are open to all students, no matter their reading ability. It has been so much fun to see my strongest readers and my struggling readers discuss and connect with one another over wonderful books!
