Help me give my students "Lunch and Learn." We are currently trying to add a math section to our library, eventually having a lunch and learn program so that students additional support outside the classroom.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Greetings, I am responsible for the success in math for the over 400 students at my middle school in Washington DC. My students have very diverse learning backgrounds ranging from learning disabilities to students taking advance math. This at times can pose a challenge to ensure ALL students have access to the materials needed to continue to thrive. Most of the students you and I would be supporting are socially and economically disadvantaged. This disadvantage has been enhanced due school closures caused by COVID.
The good news is after 18 months the doors of the school are back open to all students, without the troubles of no access to Wi-Fi or devices.
I am elated to see my students face to face after nearly 2 years (kind of because we will all have masks)! With the joy of returning to in person learning, safely, there still remains a lack of resources to address the new challenges of 2021.
My Project

Our school has realized additional time is needed to help fill in the learning gaps created during the pandemic.
To create more space for learning that extends beyond class time, we are creating a Lunch & Learn program. Here we will invite students to the library to learn about math, future careers in math, and the foundational math skills needed enter those fields of profession.
Students who participate will explore the books made possible through your contributions. Students who elect to skip the cafeteria will have snacks available to them or have refreshments available to continue learning.
