This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Joyce Meyer once said, "Teachers can change lives with just the right mix of chalk and challenges." Especially, teachers who work together to meet the daily challenges of engaging and empowering their students in the learning process.
My students are kind and generous; probably the most generous children I have ever met!
They are hungry, but they share their food. They have little, but they are happy with what they have. I love them very much!
Our school is located in a very impoverished area. 60% are below the poverty level, and many live in non-English speaking homes with no computers, books, or supplies to bring to school. They receive 2 free meals at school, but for many, these are the only meals they have each day. However, I am determined to provide them with the same opportunities that others experience in areas where poverty is not so prevalent.
That is why it is so important to provide them with engaging activities that challenge them and show the the possibilities of what they can achieve if they work hard and learn the skills that will ensure a happy and successful future.
My Project
My partner science teacher and I work closely to maximize the learning experience for our children. We work together to plan projects that provide our students with opportunities to show off newly learned skills and to compete with one another. I believe that competition is a great motivator. It teaches good sportsmanship while instilling a sense of pride.
Right now, the 3 kits we have allow our students to build their rovers and test them on different days. Your gift would provide enough kits so that our classes can use the kits at the same time. This way, students can test their rovers against one another. They learn more, and they retain what they learn for longer. They can use math to calculate, and then they can write about their outcomes. Just as important, they learn to work with others in healthy competition toward the best outcome possible. These are important skills to have if they are to have success in life.
Your generous donation will help my partner and I to provide an activity that will show off investigative skills learned in the classroom, teach students to work with others toward a central goal, and give them a sense of accomplishment while showing them that sometimes two heads are better than one when it comes to investigating and solving problems in daily life!
It will enrich the learning experience of more than 300 students and give them an experience that will never be forgotten!
