My students are simply amazing. They are curious, creative, and eager for knowledge. They inspire me to be better every day. They are on a guided path to being lifelong learners. I'm honored to be a part of their journey.
Looking out into our classroom I see students from other parts of the world and some born right in the neighborhood making for a rich cultural experience.

My Project
I have taught Lucy Calkins writing curriculum for 7 years. I have done Lucy Calkins book studies on her work as my independent professional development projects. I have been to local Lucy Calkins writing trainings lead by her representatives. I have been in charge of planning Lucy Calkins writing for my grade level before. Some of the best things I've ever done for children have been in the writing framework Lucy Calkins created.
I have been applying to get into this summer training for years, and this year I WAS FINALLY ACCEPTED!
I've heard colleagues refer to this training as a once-in-a-lifetime learning experience. It is a sought after training, which is why the waitlist to get in every year is so long. The training will take place at Columbia University's Teacher College in New York City. I hope to gain more insight to writing and literacy for students, especially those with special needs. This writing curriculum is amazing with ALL students. It helps everyone grow their voice as a writer. It helps everyone grow their ideas. It helps everyone understand the connection between talk, reading, and writing. I want to go to this training and help my students even more.
I am asking for help with the cost of lodging, transportation, and food expenses needed to go to this training. I would love to use the writing knowledge I gain in this training to come back and help all my students, and especially those with special needs. Thank you in advance!
