Lucky Little Library

I need a cart to house our Staff Empowerment Library books that have been funded through previous Donors Choose projects. This library consists of self- help and culturally responsive titles for our school staff.

My Students

Our students are thoughtful, passionate, and hard working. Unfortunately, for many of my students, these attributes are not fostered at home in a way that will allow them to reach their potential.

We are a Title I school (high poverty rate) and many students get their main source of nutrition, health and mental care, and attention and love from us.

The most recent life-changing issue many of our students are facing is a drug epidemic. So many of the students have family members directly impacted by this, everything from addiction, jail, or even death.

Regardless of the challenges they face outside of the classroom, our students are eager to learn. Many say teaching middle schoolers is not for the faint of heart, and some days I would agree, but we wouldn't want any other age group!

My Project

We have started an Empowerment Staff Library in our school. Our first project was to get staff copies of "The Hate U Give" and it was a hit. Now we have had other projects funded to offer a variety of books to address racial and social injustices in our society. We want to continue to explore "hot topics" through literature. Now we need a new place to store our library.

Our school serves a diverse group of students and our staff has benefited from reading books with a voice and a view that could be different than their own.

We thank you for all of your support in helping us learn!
