Kindergarten is my favorite grade because I see the results of my teaching as my kindergarteners progress during the year.
My students have a broad spectrum of readiness when they begin the year...some are reading already and some do not even recognize many letters in the alphabet.
None of this matters to my students because the excitement of being in "big school" has finally arrived!
As I meet my new class of kindergarteners on the first day of school, I am always amazed at how the world is still so new and fresh to them. My classes are never the same and it never gets old seeing how they learn and grow in their reading fluency over the school year.

My Project
My Lucky Ladybug kindergarten class will absolutely become more fluent readers with the wonderful Lakeshore Leveled Readers. The readers will become our classroom library where the kinders will be able to choose books according to what they can read and understand. This is so important since students will not become frustrated with books that have too many unknown words.
Students will have the chance of reading at their abilities all day in the classroom and not having to wait to go to the media center to get books.
The Lakeshore Leveled Readers correlate with my school's reading assessment system, so I can trust the books are the correct ones for my students' independent reading. No more flipping through books and getting bored because they are too hard!
