Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every morning as I walk onto the blacktop to pick up my second graders, I am greeted with hugs and "I missed you,” even if I saw them yesterday. They come to school with smiles on their faces the majority of days, and some days, their home lives show on their faces. I want to ensure that they have the best educational experience I can give them during their time with me.
My students are joyful, curious, and their hardships do not define them.
I work in a Title I school in California where 97% of the students receive free breakfast, lunch, and backpacks full of food to take home over the weekend. My students still come to school ready to learn and take on the world!
My Project
Small group instruction is important in the classroom to meet the needs of all of your students. I have students who range from being emergent readers to fluent readers.
With this variety of readers in my classroom, whole group instruction can only do so much to meet their needs.
That is why I created this project, to help meet the needs of my students. You may ask, how can a horseshoe shaped table help? It allows me to meet with a small group of students that can fit around the perimeter. In addition, on my side, I sit inside the “horseshoe” and I can reach all my student individually, listen to them read, and provide individualized instruction. Thank you and hopefully a lucky horseshoe table will be in my students future! You are amazing!
