My Students

This tragedy is rich in characters, imagery, and mythological references. This reading is the basis, the introduction, to a year's worth of learning. This is the bench mark for their success.

My students are in a title one high school, working hard to gain college credits.

They know that my class is difficult, but they are willing to work harder than they ever have before in order to begin their successful college careers. They have all completed freshman college composition as juniors, a big jump for many of them. They have proved themselves and understand that this year will be even more demanding.

My Project

With the rich literature you provide, my students will have access to their own copy of the play. They will have more time to read and absorb the play. This will enable me to spend class time on discussions and teaching them how to read beyond the text, to analyze the imagery, and learn to think for themselves. This is our first assignment, and it is full of passages for them to think about.

Without these books, my students will have to spend most of their class time simply reading the text.

That takes away from the opportunities they have to move beyond the text and learn how to think about literature. Without being able to read outside of class, we can never get to true analysis.
