This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a bright bunch, that are hungry for knowledge. They come to class with questions and real-life connections to the work that we do. It is so awesome to see them grow in the content of English language arts. I am excited about this year, as it will be a group of new faces. We will have a chance to start new and exciting projects around reading and writing.
My students deserve nothing but the best.
I want them to know that all facets of the work and classroom environment are to benefit their future. In high need schools, it can be difficult trying to supply everything on your own dime. In addition, the need may go above and beyond your ability. I know my children will have bright futures. They see beyond their current status, which gives me a strong sense of confidence in them.
My Project
As we meet the middle of the of the year, I want to support lower level students more. I have identified students that are not showing growth in reading or writing. This project will bring life to their independent reading. During the guided reading block I take away student agency.
By providing more text, students will feel more comfortable with text choice.
I maintain high expectations in my class regardless of ability. My students that fall below grade level in reading tend to struggle in writing as well. I want to spend more time giving them skills at their level to help show growth. Meeting them where they are at is crucial. I want all my students to leave me confident about reading and lifelong readers.
