I teach in a public 9-12 classroom that is shared with other teachers during the day. It is in a close-knit community where many of the students are familiar with each other. They both support and challenge each other every day.
Hard-working, enthusiastic, and resilient; my students are eager to prepare themselves for their future.
They are fearless when it comes to technology and, as children of the 21st century, they need to be prepared to use a variety of tools to engage their world.
Having an iPad in my classroom would really help out a group of my students from low-income families that can't afford the electronics needed to use many of the resources in the classroom. Our school has many affluent families so we don't receive funding for many things, such as electronics needed since most families buy their own. The few low-income families tend to get overlooked in decisions by the district about what is needed.
With this new iPad my lower-income students won't feel ashamed borrowing electronics from friends or even straining the finances of their parents who buy them to maintain equitable educational opportunities.
