My students need reading and writing stations, to help build essential language skills in phonics, word work, vocabulary, reading comprehension and writing.
Our 2nd grade classroom is filled with 19 fun, active, intelligent and loving students. We are located in Omaha, Nebraska and are proud to be a part of the Omaha Public School system. We love to be out of our seats, interacting with each other and engaging in hands-on activities.
I want to be able to provide my students with as many resources as I can, in order to give them the opportunities to enhance their knowledge in reading and writing.
The students are both regular and IEP students, whom need a variety of learning opportunities to meet all there different needs. My students love activities that resemble games. It is crucial to give them activities that they are interested in and they can build connections to. Hands-on activities will enable them to build their understanding of a concept that they are learning during whole-group lessons. I want to build my students' love for education, keep them interested and having fun while doing it. I believe that the Reading and Writing Activity Stations from Lakeshore Learning store will provide the love for learning I hope for them to feel.
My Project
During part of our literacy block, my students go to Daily 5 centers, which includes: listening to reading, reading to a partner, reading to themselves, working on words, and working on writing. This is a portion of the day where my students have the opportunity to interact with each other and engage in hands-on activities that incorporate the concepts we are learning in reading and writing. Building students that can complete grade-level activities independently is important for their growth. My students will follow the step-by-step instructions to find the main idea in a passage, build compound words, sort beginning and ending sounds, find antonyms and synonyms, build vocabulary skills and much more!
The Reading and Writing Activity Stations will build my students' knowledge in 5 very important language skills.
They will be able to make connections to the activities they are doing and make relationships between that concept and what we learn in class. It will give them the opportunity to work and explore with a peer, function independently while doing grade-level activities and be hands-on and engaged in their own learning.
