My students are English Language Learners. They work so hard and appreciate anything and everything you do for them. Often that is just a smile and a hug from their teachers. Needs are great at our school. We are a Title I ELL Magnet school. If you don’t know, Title I means that our students get a free and reduced lunch because of the income of the parents.
My students are so eager to learn and try so hard even when they have to work twice as hard as their English speaking peers.
Many of my students need books to read at home. I usually make books for students to take home for home practice. Since schools are closed, I have found wonderful reading websites to help my students make independent progress, but this is not possible, of course, without a device at home.
My Project
Like most people during this crisis, I am feeling a little bit overwhelmed with worry and concern not only for my own family but also for my school family. I would like to start a lending library with Kindle Fires so my students can work on reading skills and also have virtual lessons with their teachers. Students can make independent progress from home and I can give them individualized lessons based on their level and need.
Since I teach English to students, having conversations with them, seeing them, and just interacting with them is vital.
Internet providers are providing free internet during this national crisis; however, many of my students do not have a device to work on from home.
