Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are discovering their love for reading and I want to encourage it with Sideways Stories from Wayside School.
My students are an inquisitive group of second graders that are excited to learn!
My second-grade classroom is located in an urban community with the vast majority of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunches. We have a diverse community of students with a high number of English Language Learners. As with many California districts, our school is facing budget cuts making it difficult to provide these students with the supplies they deserve.
My Project
In a world of budget cuts, having a copy of the book in every child's desk so that they can follow along, would be priceless. Not only could they visually follow along, but they will feel the book in their hands and physically experience reading. Reading creates strong imaginations and increases writing skills. The books will also improve vocabulary and opens minds! The sequel stories will encourage them to continue reading.
This project will give each child a copy of Wayside School so they can have the full experience behind reading a story.
It is so important for children to fall in love with reading at a young age, so that this love of reading follows them for the rest of their lives.
