This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am an ESL teacher in Massachusetts. We are a Title I school in Boston. Our students don't always get the same opportunities and supplies as their suburban counterparts. Our students often hear that they are under-performing. Here, we are working hard to make sure that students succeed and feel valued and loved!
I love my students and I want them to be successful!
Our school serves students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. Most of my students speak Spanish, Vietnamese or Haitian Creole. Some students are newcomers to this country and are adjusting to life here in America. Some of my students have come here to escape natural disasters or war. It is my mission to teach them English, but also provide a safe and stable environment for them to learn.
My Project
I am hoping to receive multiple copies of our favorite reading books to enhance my students' small reading groups. We are hoping to receive books in sets of 4 or 5, so that we can all read together! Currently, we only have one copy of our favorite books!
My students are English language learners in grades K2-3 and learning early literacy skills is of the most important aspects of school for them.
When students have their own copy of a book, it helps increase their comprehension and decoding skills. Please help us to achieve our literacy goals by contributing to our project.
