Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students come from one of the toughest areas in Rockford, IL. Systemic inequities are already stacked against them as a result of things that are out of their control, such as race, trauma and poverty. They deserve quality, meaningful educational experiences that will allow them to not only develop a deeper understanding of the content they are learning, but also a love for learning. This is key to helping to break down these unfair barriers that they face everyday.

My Project

The wonderful thing about this project is its potential is endless. You can create any learning activity using any content. We can assess our understanding of fractions by putting it in the form of a Mystery and in order to solve the mystery, students have to work together to solve the problems to get the codes to open up the locks and progress through the mystery until it is solved. I chose this specific kit because it also comes with a learning platform where I can get resources for many other escape room learning experiences and connect them to our 4th-grade common core content. It will surely help build a team community in the classroom and also create learning experiences that my students will always remember.
