Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach fourth grade in an inner city school in Chicago. My students come from multicultural diverse backgrounds. The majority of them come from low income households, and many of them struggle with social emotional issues. About 20 percent of my students are diverse learners, and about 50% are English Language Learners. Despite the hardships my students endure, they are always eager to learn and strive to do their best.
My students are remarkable individuals who put a smile on my face every day.
I want to provide my students with an abundance of books and other materials so they can become avid readers and writers in my Language Arts classroom. I want my students to have the necessary materials in the classroom to help them be successful.
My Project
The materials listed will help my students be successful in Language Arts class. The "James and the Giant Peach" books will allow every student in my class to have a copy of the book while we complete a novel unit. Currently, students share books and by providing each student their own copy it will enable me to further develop the novel unit. The daily reading journals will allow each student daily access to reading passages and comprehension questions which will help students develop critical thinking skills and advance as readers. The Post-it charts will provide students and me opportunities to display our thoughts and ideas through visuals posted within the classroom. The pencil sharpener will provide quick and instant access for students to sharpen their pencils causing minimal classroom disruptions.
