My students need writing prompt ideas, story starters, fluency listening activities and organizational boxes, book tubs and bags to organize our Daily 5 Literacy Centers.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Indeed, learning to write may be a part of learning to read. For all I know, writing comes out of a superior devotion to reading." - Eudora Welty
Writing is a part of reading! Writing practice is very limited due to the high demand of reading and math in my grade level.
My students attend a charter school in an urban, high poverty area.
Most of my students are from low income homes. They are not exposed to fluent reading or writing at home. Many of my students are limited English speakers also. They need to be immersed in the language. It is important for them to hear fluent reading to be able to read and speak fluently. Another key component to being a fluent reader, is being able to write. My students need practice writing.
My Project
I am requesting several tools to help students get started writing. They include a Build-A-Story flip book, a Create-A-Prompt flip book and a revising and editing guide. These tools will help them become successful writers. I am also requesting a Fluency Listening Activity pack. This will help my English Language Learners hear fluent reading and be able to practice. And, I need a way to organize it all! I am requesting book bags, book boxes and storage tubs.
I love seeing my students grow and learn!
They have truly enjoyed starting the Daily 5 literacy centers. I am trying to gather as many tools as possible to help them become better readers and writers. Your help would greatly impact the quality of materials available to these eager learners! When it is fun and interesting, they are so much more engaged and willing to work hard.
