Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 40 very diverse students that come into my classroom every day. They come from predominantly low-income homes and have a wide range of learning abilities. Half of my students are English language learners.
I have students who come to school with more on their plate than most children should, and this takes their focus away from their education.
They struggle to make school a priority, through no fault of their own. Most of my students have little to no access to books, technology, or educational materials outside of my classroom.
My Project
My students work hard every day to become better readers, not just for the school year, but forever. They are continuously building their stamina and improving the discussions they have about the books they read. For some of my readers, it takes a lot to get them reading more.
When I find a book series that my struggling readers actually want to read, the best thing I can do for them is to provide those books!
I want my students excited about reading every day.
Our community was effected by Hurricane Harvey at the beginning of this school year, and my students were forced to miss over a week of school. They came back with questions and concerns, most having never experienced that kind of event. They were able to bounce back, and it is my goal to continue their amazing progress!
