My students need individual CD players, headphones, and audiobooks with familiar themes, repetitive text and rhythms that match their interests and reading levels to enhance their literacy and language development.
My students are curious and eager to learn, motivated to do well, and happy to make new friends. They love school, each other and their teachers! Various cultural backgrounds, home languages, and family economic statuses are represented among my students, but many children struggle with the conditions of poverty. Some children have had some pre-school experience and exposure to rich language environments, while others have had none. Despite their family situations, all of my students want to feel cared about, to have their needs met, to learn new things and to be proud of their accomplishments in school.
My goal is to help each student be successful.
I strive to create an engaging classroom environment, a supportive community of learners, and diverse educational experiences that enable each child to reach their full potential.
My Project
Many of my students have had little prior exposure to books and to rich language experiences upon entering school. Listening and reading along to books with the individual CD players will promote students' engagement and interest in reading, as well as language growth. The books I selected will be read and discussed during whole group lessons and used to teach skills such as rhyming, alphabet knowledge, print awareness, comprehension, number concepts and social/emotional behaviors. The CD players and books will then be used during independent learning centers to reinforce skills and concepts and to allow children to experience the joy of re-reading familiar stories.

The audiobooks and CD players will allow my students to interact and engage independently with books that meet their individual needs and interests to develop their love for reading and learning.
