Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every morning as my students walk into the classroom I see their happy faces to be at school. However sometimes some of them haven’t had breakfast, didn’t have enough sleep because their home was cold the night before.
I work at AE a in low income district where some students receive lunch bags at the end of the day so they can have a meal before they go to bed, get receive used coats/clothes to wear during winter, more than one family lives in the same house, don't have someone who can read to/with them, and last but not least they come to school eager to learn new thing.
It is exciting to hear at the end of the day that they want spend more time at school, but at the same time it makes me wonder why they want to stay. Is school a better environment for them? Why do they feel so happy to be at school?
My Project
By providing students with these magazines everyone will have the same reading material to read weekly. Our students love reading and by providing them with these short materials they will be excited to receive the next magazine.
If our students receive this short informational text they have more chances to read because it's appropriate for their reading level, plus they have comprehension questions.
With the implementation of these weekly magazines our students will be excited to receive new material. Also they will have ownership of them. I strongly believe that our student will re-read this material because it's engaging and it not part of the curriculum that they read daily at school.
