My students need multiple copies of a variety of books and boxed sets of series books to use during literature circles to learn and enforce comprehension skills and strategies
"Once you learn to read, you will be forever free."
— Frederick Douglass
My students are above grade level and finding appropriate but challenging books is always interesting.
We participate in literature circles in my class to allow students to practice reading comprehension skills and strategies while diving deep into chapter books. The school I teach at is amazing and most of my students have a desire to learn and read when presented with interesting books.
My Project
The challenge with literature circles is that I must have 7 copies of the book each group is reading to do them. Parents can't afford to buy all the books we need and the library doesn't have the funding nor the capacity to store large quantities of one title. These books will allow me to enrich the reading experience of my students. They will be able to dive deep into the literature and make deep connections with characters. Most importantly, they will develop a love of reading that they will carry with them always. If a child loves reading they are more inclined to do it. These books will provide many interesting choices to use during literature circles. These books will also be shared with other teachers at my school to enrich the learning experience in many classrooms.
"There are many little ways to enlarge your child's world.
Love of books is the best of all."
— Jacqueline Kennedy
These books are requests from my students of books they have not read, but would like to. They will be used for many years by many students to provide endless learning experiences. The knowledge one can gain from reading is priceless. You can travel the world without ever leaving home just by reading!
