Help me give my students a set of essential books that can be used to guide and support a love for reading. The Rebus Readers and Caldecott books will be used during small group instruction.
As a teacher in Ansonia, I work with a diverse group of students who have special needs ranging from being speech and language impaired, to autistic, to intellectually disabled. They are faced with many challenges in and out of the classroom. I am focusing on teaching life skills in a creative and meaningful way so that they skills can be used in the future.
From the moment my students walk through the door of my classroom, they are focusing on developing literacy and math skills through interactive activities.
I want to inspire my students to develop a love for reading and mathematics that can be used in their lives.
My Project
The materials that I am asking for will make a difference in my students' learning by providing each student with their own copy of books that are being read with the Rebus Readers. The brightly illustrated books that are Caldecott Award winners are sure to inspire my students to continue reading after each lesson.
The students that I work with enjoy being able to read a book at their independent reading level.
The range of these books will allow the students to develop confidence as they read on their own. The books will also be used to guide questions and instruction each lesson.
The books that focus on sight words will allow the students to gain the word knowledge that they need to read and enjoy the books. Each student will be able to work at their own pace with access to their own workbook. The materials will provide a wealth of lessons in which the students will enhance their love for reading and develop fundamental reading skills.
