My Students

My typical student is a student who struggles with connecting to school. The student knows that graduation is important and is doing everything possible to make sense of the requirements and become successful within the community.

Many of my students have had teachers give up on them in the past; they have experienced failure and they are ready to give up on themselves.

I understand that my students are more than a test score. They are more than a letter grade. They are more than the 45 minutes I see them each day.

My goal is to let my students know they are safe in my classroom and I will do everything I can to assist in their successes.

My Project

By supplying my class with 30 copies of "All American Boys" by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely, numerous at-risk students will have access to read and connect with literature.

At risk students who struggle with reading need up-to-date, current, relevant novels that interest them and speak to them!

This novel draws in those students who struggle with the never-ending decision: How do I stand up for what is right when it could all go horribly wrong for me?

The love of reading literature is a daunting task for students who have struggled with reading in the past. Help students fall in love with reading.
