My students need these novels to expand their exposure to different genre's of reading as well as to increase their discussion skills on a variety of different book topics.
My students are upcoming sixth graders that are needing to have their reading genre exposure expanded. As their teacher I want to teach to them reading skills through novel. It will help my rural Florida students to see that just because they live in one part of the state, country, or wold any child can experience the same as them.
Teaching reading through novels I have seen made my students grow their knowledge base far and wide and their discussions and character to self connections have been amazing.
My Project
I am asking for these novels to help increase my students reading skills and discussion skills. Novels allow student discussion to be more in depth and brings critical thinking skills that are needed on how to solve problems and issues around their community and the world around them.
The books that I have chosen will provide thought provoking situations to increase students knowledge of other cultures and relate themselves to people that are different from the culture they have been exposed to.
It will I believe give them a more compassionate way of thinking and also let them know that everyone should be treated fairly.
