This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My scholars are smart and fantastic explorers. They are inquiring and constantly investigating new ideas. They have a lot of energy and want to play and think outside the box. The classroom is set up with centers to explore and learn through play.

They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances to grow both personally and academically.

Our school is nestled in the heart of Brooklyn, in East New York City.

Each child in my classroom loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly.

We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, centers, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They are truly an incredible group, with a multicultural background. I am so fortunate and thankful to have a new group of brilliant learners that are excited and eager to learn each year.

My Project

Please help me give my class books that they can relate to. These books are terrific and culturally relevant to my scholars. They love to sit and listen to a story. They ask important questions which show that they are thinking about the story carefully. Also, they like to act out some of the stories. When the characters look like them they feel energized and all want to answer the questions at once. I love their enthusiasm and want them to continue to read and cherish the joy of reading and learning about life experiences through books that they can relate to.
