Each day in my classrooms is a new adventure. I have the privilege of working with an amazing group of students, ages eight to twelve, with a varying range of special needs. My students face challenges in the areas of cognition, speech, motor, visual, hearing, social and/or behavioral skills. Many are also directly impacted by Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism or Sensory Processing Disorders. This influences how they interpret and interact with the world around them. Their unique viewpoint has changed who I am as both a teacher and a parent.
My students challenge me to provide them with access to meaningful experiences and curriculum that will allow them to grow as future world citizens.
My students inspire and guide my classroom teams as we work together to learn academic, social and life skills.
Our classroom pet, Lola, is a sweet and inquisitive, rescue bunny. She enjoys company, playing with toys and snuggling. She also loves to get out and explore. This past school year, Lola quickly bonded with my students and has become an important member of our classroom family.
The addition of a classroom pet to our academic and life-skills centered curriculum has enhanced endless lessons and provided daily opportunities for responsibility.
The materials requested will go directly to the care and well-being of Lola. She benefits from a diet that provides healthy base food, greens/hay and occasional treats. A cozy bed is essential so that she feels snug and secure when she is ready for some rest. Last year, she loved her grass hut so much that I am requesting a spare, as it also provided her a healthy outlet for digging and nesting. Fun and safe toys will also provide stimulation and satisfy her need for safe chewing. Finally, AKC pads allow for a quick and easy cleanup of her cage tray to keep her "room" clean and pleasant.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about our sweet Lola. It is my hope that Lola will continue to provide countless opportunities for learning and loving for years to come.
