My Students

My students are a mixed bag of learners and personalities. Some are creative, some are thoughtful, many participate in conversations each day and then some just sit and stare, unsure of what to say and what to write. However, they come to school each day, ready to learn and be successful!

Many of my students are on different reading levels; Some 2-3 years below grade level, Other 1-2 years below and the rest on grade level.

As the reading teacher, it is important to empower all my students, no matter their reading level, to embrace literature and to improve their reading skills.

While each child in my class has a love for learning, It is important for me to establish a community where learning is possible for ALL the students, which means providing them with the necessary tools and resources that meet them where they are but will propel them to where they need to be.

My Project

The supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." With help from donations, these supplies will benefit my students in the classroom in so many ways. The books will be placed in our current library area, next to the carpet. The books will be sorted for by those that are above grade level, on grade level and below grade level for easy reference/access for the students. This will provide the students with a comfortable area to sit, read and reflect. Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read.

With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will meet them where they are academically and allow them to be independent readers.

My students will be able to choose from books that interest them. But mainly, these books will inspire a love of reading in my students. My hope is that they will use these books as a catalyst to read more which will build on their reading comprehension, enrich their reading experience and propel them further into a love of literature.
