My students need I Can Read Level Books! They also need clipboards for flexible seating arrangements. My students need magnetic pocket charts to add to their centers.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I remember most of these classic book titles from when I was a first grader. After a successful year in my first grade classroom I couldn't help to think that something was missing. I came across some of these I can read books and they were absolutely engaging.
I have 25 wonderful, eager to learn, first graders.
Our school is located in a high risk poverty population. Everyday my students look forward to our Literacy Block. If one thing is missing from our routine during literacy they have no problem reminding me that I forgot to do one of reading activities. Needless to say they love to read. I enjoyed watching them grow as readers and gain a passion and joy of reading a book from cover to cover.
My Project
The I Can Read leveled books will help maintain the pure joy of reading a book. The titles and story lines are easy to connect with in their lives. The characters in all the stories are likable and fun. I can see my students going crazy over these books and wanting them in their book boxes to read everyday. My students do not like to stay in one spot. I allow flexible seating to keep their bodies moving, comfortable, and their brains engaged. The clipboards will allow some students to move around the classroom and work instead of staying at their seats. As I had mentioned before my students love Literacy time in our classroom. I am always trying to find new activities and game to increase their learning. The magnetic pocket charts will be a great addition to our word work center. I can allow the students to use them as word sorts, sequencing activities, and other word activities.
These items will better our classroom but enhancing what is already happening in the room; learning!
My students love books, whether they are 10 years old or brand new. It doesn't matter. What will matter to them is that it is a book at their level that they can take pride in reading. I want to make my classroom a fun engaging place to learn. All of these items will help see my plan through.
