Hooray! This project is fully funded

Today I participated in a teacher in-service day that focused on connecting Science, Language Arts and English Language Development. One of our sessions was in science observation and involved a project called The Private Eye Project. It was so exciting to find ourselves immersed in these observations of things around us, including our own fingerprints and skin! The reason we were able to observe everything so well was because we all had loupes. I had read about this project to connect teachers to donors and told my fellow teammates that I would go right home and see what I could do! So, here I am a few hours later asking for your assistance so that each of our primary classes could have a class set of loupes. I teach at Laurelwood School in Santa Clara, in a program that is quite unique in the public schools and involves a three year stint with me, from first through third grade. Our population is increasingly diverse and about 25% of our students are ELL(English Language Learners). Observation, with the drawing and writing that follows, is important for all students. My students could use these loupes for many observations, recording their data in their Science Learning Logs. Our primary grades have 20 students per class. My request is for our two multi-age classes to get loupes. Observation is a key to inquiry and that is the basis of our science curriculum. Your help would make closer observation and discovery possible for primary students at Laurelwood School.
