Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class is an academically and ethnically diverse group of 28 fourth grade students. 80% of my students have a primary language other than English. 85% of those students are limited in their English proficiency. 100% of my class participates in the free meal programs. Additionally, several of my students need additional support and multiple modalities to support their learning. The excitement I see from them every time I add a new book to our classroom library is priceless. A plentiful, varied classroom library witha variety of seating choice is an essential tool that they all need to increase their literacy to become college and career ready.
My Project
By giving my students the freedom to sit around the classroom on different size chairs and rugs, I am able to encourage and nourish their thirst for reading. Adding new books to our classroom library opens up new opportunities for my students to fall in love with reading.
The use of flexible seating in the form of bean bag chairs and a basket full of new books in the class will open up the world of literature to my students.
My eager to acquire knowledge students will be given several opportunities throughout the day to choose where they want to learn and read.
