My Students

I teach in a New York City public school. My students are in grades 6-8 and are all unique when it comes to their learning needs and styles. The population at my school consists of multicultural students who are goal setters and 21st-century learners.

My students need flexible seating supports to help them stay engaged.

Many of them would love to have the freedom to sit where they choose while completing student led projects. They would greatly benefit from the opportunity to actively learn while taking on alternative approaches to the work. In addition, flexible seating would help to create more of a student led learning environment that is comfortable for everyone to learn!

My Project

Flex seating will make a pivotal difference in classroom learning and engagement, as students have a rough time sitting still, as do we all! They want to learn, and I want them to be comfortable when they are learning. Comfortable students learn best.

I have recently set up a “comfy corner” in my classroom that allows students to chill and lounge, complete their work independently, research and take on leadership roles during group work, all while remaining engaged and focused.

At the moment, there are only crates there for them to sit on so we are in much need of more comfortable options!
