This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I am a 3rd grade social studies teacher in Louisiana. The social studies curriculum that I teach allows 3rd grade students to learn about the state in which they live. This project will support the curriculum that I teach.

My school is located in an urban setting, New Orleans, Louisiana.

My school is a K-8 school operating on two separate campuses. The students that I teach are excited and eager to learn as much as possible, although many have a low socio-economic status. My school is a Title 1 school, with 100% of the students receiving free lunch.

My Project

My students need a classroom library of 47 books involving Louisiana history, to support the 3rd grade social studies curriculum. My students will use the books to learn more about the State of Louisiana. The books will be read aloud in class, on display for early finishers, and used to complete projects throughout the school year. This will assist them in becoming more familiar with Louisiana history, the state in which they live.

The donations for this project will make a difference in the lives of my students, as it will enhance the curriculum.

Students will have access to these books on a regular basis, so they learn more about their state.
