My students need good, quality, comfortable headphones to use for testing and reading stations. They need a durable product with high-quality sound and cords that don't tangle, so they can focus on the learning that matters.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
At our school of Expeditionary Learning, we come together to explore, question and create in order to do better work and be better people than we ever thought possible. In a nutshell, Expeditionary Learning provides students with an interdisciplinary education connected to character and community.
An integral component of a student’s education at our school is through “Learning Expeditions”, in-depth studies of a compelling topic tied to literacy standards.
These Learning Expeditions go hand in hand with fieldwork experiences within our local community to further investigate and explore real-world connections.
We think our third-grade students are extraordinary minds working to solve these real-world problems. With 87% minority students, 70% of the students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, new immigrants from Mexico, Syrian refugees, students in transitional housing, and a multitude of languages spoken, our students bring their insight and diverse background experiences to the problem-solving table.
My Project
Third graders across the nation start to take standardized tests. In Colorado, each student takes over ten, hour and a half-long tests throughout the year. Sitting, focusing, and doing your best is a challenge for all students.
However, our students face the additional challenges of learning the language of the test, learning to navigate new unfamiliar technology, and fighting cheap, painful, tangled, beat up headphones.
The hardest part of these tests should not be their equipment.
With new headphones, students can focus on the tests. During daily instruction, they can cozy up in their own quiet corner, free from the hassle of tangled chords and the noise of other students. They can have books read to them and songs sung to them. They can interact with the curriculum in a customized way at their own level. This tool (headphones) will increase student engagement in class and in their supplemental iPad activities.
