My students have a true thirst for learning! I teach students who struggle academically by pulling them in small groups. My students love activities that are hands on, allow them to interact with one another, and that make learning fun. They are constantly asking me questions about the world around them and they love making discoveries about new topics!
My students' curiosity is what pushes them to learn new things each and every day.
Although my students may face learning difficulties, when material is accessible to them, they become fully invested and are disappointed when they have to leave my classroom. I want to continue to find new ways to encourage their curiosity and deepen their love of learning!
My Project
Although I work with students in small intervention groups, they struggle to maintain engagement in math lessons due to a lack of conceptual understanding. My students are also very active and enjoy moving around the classroom during lessons.
These math games will allow my students to develop number sense through hands-on learning.
They provide great visuals of abstract concepts, such as base 10, which will deepen my students' conceptual understanding.
The noise reducing earmuffs will enable my students to focus on learning in all subjects within my classroom. I share my classroom with other special education teachers, so there are frequently multiple lessons occurring simultaneously, which creates quite a bit of background noise. This can really distract some of my students who struggle to maintain focus even in a quiet environment. I currently have one cheap pair of noise reducing earmuffs from the dollar store, which they all beg to use when they want to focus on their work. Having enough pairs for my entire group would enable all of my students to focus on learning at all times.
