The students in my class are bursting with laughter, love, and the eagerness to learn new skills. My students communicate, learn, and love in very unique ways. Many of my students are considered nonverbal while a few are very verbal. My classroom is a exceptional children self contained Autism classroom.
Communication is a huge factor in our classroom.
We strive to allow the students to show us what they know. When speaking, writing, and eye contact are limited it is difficult to get the information needed to exceed.
My Project
Due to hurricane Florence our school was closed for 30 days. Our classrooms were throughly cleaned leaving some of our items broken, damaged, or moldy. Much of our play doh, kinetic sand, and tools were gone or damaged.
Kinesthetic activities are a huge part of our classroom.
We use Lakeshore dough with messy mats to help create and maintain fine motor skills and strength. Mold and play sand allow for creative design and thinking while using their hands. These skills help improve our handwriting for academic activities. The light table will be used to expose my students with Autism to different senses.
