Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach Spanish One to one hundred and fifty high school students at a low income school in Connecticut.

My school has very few supplies for the world language department and no Spanish-English dictionaries for the students to use. When they need to translate new words in class the students pass around my two dictionaries that I carry with me from class to class.

Having an entire set of dictionaries would allow my students to be able to do more projects and write more papers in Spanish because they would be able to find the words that they needed in order to complete the activity. This would free me up to help students that struggle with reading and writing as I would not be constantly translating for students nor would I be passing my dictionaries around the room. A simple set of class dictionaries would allow me to create authentic and alternative assessments and give my students an opportunity to be creative with language learning. New supplies would also greatly increase investment.

Your donation would make it possible for me to expand my students' horizons and invest them in language learning. In an ever growing diverse and globalized world, language learning is needed more now than ever. Please allow my students to have materials that would engage them in learning and enable my classroom to do many more activities to enhance student achievement.
