I teach 2nd grade in an all inclusion setting. We are a K-12 college preparatory school. We are nestled in a rural community in North Carolina. Most of our students come from low-income families where school is not always the most important thing.
Children learn at different rates and I would like to provide them an opportunity to move through various math skills at their own pace while still providing enrichment at the same time.
Making learning fun is an easy way to motivate students to learn.
My Project
My students need a subscription to Formative Loop which is a computer generated set of math skills that provide individualized practice for each student. This is a five minute daily practice on skills already taught. Once a student has mastered a particular skill, they move up to the next skill. If a student encounters trouble, review work is given to provide extra practice. Once a topic is mastered (a group of related skills) the student is presented with a certificate. Since all the skills are a review, it allows students to keep the content fresh in their minds.
I used this program for just a few months towards the end of the year and I believe it made a difference.
I loved watching their excitement when I said it was time for Formative Loop! I am really excited to see the difference it will make by using the program for the entire year.
