I teach social studies to two groups of fourth grade students. I teach my home room class math and reading also.
My students are very diverse and come from all different backgrounds.
Our school has a lot of military families and migrant workers so students are moving from one school to another throughout the year. This makes it very important for me as a teacher to make them feel as welcome as possible.
After reading about cultures and traditions of people in the North Carolina area we will be creating a craft using loom loops and looms. One of the past traditions was quilting so for student to relate to this I want them to experience making pot holders. This will be how they are going to relate to pastimes.
These days students just play video games and watch TV.
So, it is very important for students to experience traditions and customs that people participate in other than what they are use to.
