Enthusiastic, excited faces greet me every morning. It always makes me smile, and it is my goal to make them feel safe, important, and eager to learn. Providing my students with an outlet to explore the arts is a drive and privilege for me. I strive to give all of my students opportunities to explore and expand their creativity in all ways possible.
Teaching in a low-income school can be a challenge.
The children are faced with many obstacles in and out of the classroom. Many of the children do not have the same experiences or same opportunities as other children do due to instability in their lives.
My Project
It is critical for me to help my preschool students be ready for kindergarten and the following years by working with them to develop early literacy and learning skills. Early literacy is what children know about reading and writing before they can read and write. They learn to understand and use language to express their ideas, thoughts, and feelings, and to communicate with others. During early speech and language development, children learn skills that are important to the development of literacy (reading and writing).
These materials will allow me to provide all of my students with an engaging learning experience, and most importantly allow me to be flexible with the diversity of learning levels and backgrounds of my students.
The “Magnatabs” will provide my students with a fine motor experience that enriches their letter recognition and letter knowledge.
The “Spanish & Bilingual Puzzles” will support the majority of my students who are Dual Language Learners, as well as enhance the multicultural of all of my students.
The “Toobaloo” will increase the opportunity of maximum reading comprehension by involving three senses: sight, sound, and touch. My students are always walking around the classroom talking on our dramatic play phones!
The “AlphaMagnets” and “Alpha Stamps,” will be used in large group, small group and independent work to support my students letter recognition and building words.
The “Sing-along Read-along classics,” will enhance the literacy experience of some of our favorite songs, through large group and independent experiences. Our students especially love to listen to books on cd at our listening station.
