This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
What can I say about my students? They are great kids. These students come from backgrounds that are a little rougher than what most people are used to. Some students don't have a responsible person to get them up in the morning. They have to do it themselves.
Some of my students don't have anyone to help them at home with their homework.
Others wait hours in an empty house for someone to come home after school. I compare them to a bottle of soda that has been shaken. Will it explode when I open it? What am I getting when my students walk through my door each morning? Are they going to explode? How have they been shaken before they have come to school each day.
Regardless of what they have going on at home, they always seem to work hard for me. They really want to do well. My students are proud of themselves when they accomplish their goals.
My Project
The materials I have selected for my class will allow my students to have the basic tools they need to use throughout the school year. Budgets don’t always allow us as teachers to get everything we need for day to day use. Materials can be expensive and my students go through them quickly. Having these materials would mean the world to them and myself. When students have their own tools, they are able to focus better and not worry about who they will be sharing materials with. These materials might not make it to the end of the year, but they will get us most of the way there!
