Looking for the Write Tools for Some Special Students
My students need specially designed writing paper with raised lines and highlights to help them learn visually and tactilely when writing. They also need a variety of pencil grips to assist with proper hold.
So much of the building blocks of education that are acquired in kindergarten are more easily learned by practice and exposure to hands-on activities. My students are just beginning their educational journey and are so eager to learn. To see the transformation in them from the beginning to the end of the year is so rewarding.
Learning how to write can be a very frustrating thing for children who still need to build fine motor skills, so special items can make learning a lot easier.
Our school is a high poverty, urban school. Funding in our district, as in most others, is being stretched very thin. Staff is being cut and supply budgets are very lean; however, the expectations are higher than ever. I want to make sure that my students have the best opportunity to flourish in their time with me.
My Project
I have seen such a dramatic improvement in my students from the beginning of the year until now. Especially with their handwriting and ability to write a sentence! It takes a lot of time and practice to get them to this point, but it is awesome to see them thrive and gain confidence with putting their thoughts on paper.
However, I do have a few children that are still struggling with writing and need some extra supports I do not currently have.
I am requesting some raised line paper so that my struggling children can use it, and the raised lines will give them a tactile way to know where to write a word and how tall to make it. Additionally, the highlighted papers and letter cards will be used to have them trace and write letters and words with a highlighted visual cue when copying or writing their letters. I also am requesting a variety of pencil grips that we can try to adjust to the specific child's needs. Any help in getting these materials would be so very appreciated.
