Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are compassionate and outgoing. They arrive at school each day eager to learn and take on any challenges. They love hands-on projects that allow them to demonstrate their creativity and collaborate with others.
Many students in my classroom carry the weight of the world on their shoulders as they come from neighborhoods filled with gang violence and poverty.
It is my personal mission to provide them with a safe environment to nurture their individual learning styles and abilities.
Each child in my classroom is highly motivated and optimistic about learning. My students enjoy learning new strategies and conducting research and presenting their findings to the class. They also are genuinely concerned about one another and go above and beyond to make everyone in our classroom feel included. I feel so grateful to have such an outstanding group of learners!
My Project
The set of books I am requesting is to meet the specific needs and reading levels of my students. While our current English curriculum is great, it is about 2-3 grade levels above my students' reading levels which hinder on their confidence and ability to access the material.
By incorporating the novel, Fish in a Tree, in our English curriculum, students will be able to access grade-level reading standards with content that is at their level.
The novel also allows students to make a connection with the protagonist. There are themes of challenges and overcoming obstacles that I believe will resonate with my students.
