Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a school where most of the students come from all over the city and are bused in every morning. My students are diverse and we encourage unity in our diversity. My students' families struggle economically and most are single parents. They work hard to pay bills and sometimes work at more than one job. So that leaves most of my students to have to teach themselves or their siblings when there's school work at home.
Having a chromebook can really help their learning since most of them do not have technology at home.
We do a lot of collaborative work and research projects. Using technology is essential and crucial for their work and discovery. School is sometimes the only place for my students to experience technology regularly.
We are a Science Magnet elementary school where I want to encourage my students to work on engineering experiments using articles and hands on videos to learn more hands on experience.
My Project
I am requesting an Acer Chromebook and four sets of science books. With these resources, my students will be able to access more reading materials to further their learning in class. The books are a great way for them to validate their discovery for different mysteries that they will learn in class. They can do partner reading with the books and that is a great strategy to be better readers.
The chromebook is a great way for me to show short videos in class and visit websites that will increase their knowledge in my class.
For example, having a Chromebook will enable me to pull up real-life events while teaching about the dangers of mudslide and landslide by showing them what happened to Montecito, CA. From there, we were able to discuss and then design solutions that could prevent a disaster such as this.
The books and having a class Chromebook will help my students in a great way. They will be exposed to good reading books and to learn how to research online for different investigations.
